there's a habit of right-wing hate preachers to hide behind the defence of being a comedian and to claim their critics just can't take a joke, but then you take one look and you see they've never even pretended to be telling jokes their whole life.

I think Halliday in Ready Player One has to be one of the most mentally unhealthy characters in all of fiction.... and it is disturbing that neither the book or the movie correctly identify his self-destructive behaviour

the entire oasis is a tomb to his life's regrets. women he never dated, his childhood nostalgia (including a virtual ghost of his younger self, forever in his childhood bedroom) and a game he spent his life designing to be played only after he was dead. to win the game you need an understanding of his life- to be as obsessed with him as he was obsessed with himself. you just don't want to be this guy
